Privacy Notice

Version 1.0 · Updated 2026-06-03

Set the date to the actual publication date. This document is a solid draft, not legal advice. A brief review by a lawyer remains advisable, in particular on the transfer outside the EEA in Article 10.

MatchMatrix26 is a single-player football predictor. The app has no account, no cloud storage and no built-in analytics. Everything you enter stays on your device. The app connects to the internet only to keep the tournament data up to date, and sends no data about you in doing so. What technically does happen is explained honestly in Article 4.

Article 1. Data Controller

The controller responsible for the processing described in this document is EverLingeringStories, established in Heesch, the Netherlands (hereinafter: “Developer”). For questions about this notice, please contact info@everlingeringstories.com.

For the purposes of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the Developer is the data controller insofar as personal data is processed. As explained below, that processing is deliberately kept to a minimum.

Article 2. What the app stores locally

The app stores the following data exclusively on the User’s device, inside a sandboxed app container:

  • The predictions and choices the User enters, for the group stage and the knockout stage.
  • Settings such as language and display preferences.

This data never leaves the device and is not transmitted to the Developer or to any third party. The Developer has no access to it and cannot view, retrieve or restore it.

Article 3. What the app does not do

  • No account registration or login functionality.
  • No telemetry, analytics or crash reporting.
  • No advertising, advertising IDs or tracking pixels.
  • No profiling or automated decision-making.
  • No location, and no access to contacts, camera, microphone or any other system permission beyond what is strictly necessary to run the app.

Article 4. The connection for data updates

To keep the tournament data up to date, the app periodically retrieves an updated data file hosted on GitHub (GitHub, Inc., a provider based in the United States). The app sends no account data, no predictions and no information that identifies the User. The traffic is one-way: the app reads the file and never writes.

It is, however, the case that with any connection to the internet, and therefore also with this one, the device’s IP address technically becomes visible to the party delivering the file. This is inherent to how the internet works and is independent of the app. GitHub may briefly record this IP address in standard server logs, as an independent data controller for those logs, typically for technical delivery and protection against abuse. GitHub’s privacy statement applies to that processing. An IP address can be personal data under the GDPR. The app adds nothing to this connection by which the User can be personally identified, and links the IP address to nothing.

The Developer does not use this connection to track the User, to build profiles or for analytics.

Article 5. Sharing and exporting

The User can export a prediction, for example as an image or as a share code. This happens only when the User performs that action themselves. The share code is self-contained and holds the data of the prediction. As soon as the User shares that image or code, this takes place through the channels the User chooses, and the terms and privacy policies of those channels apply. What is shared, and with whom, is determined by the User.

Article 6. Distribution via the App Store

The app is distributed through the Apple App Store. Apple’s privacy policy applies to the use of the App Store and to the data Apple processes in that context. The Developer receives no personally identifiable data from Apple. The app offers no in-app purchases.

Article 7. Deletion of data

All data stored by the app is deleted at the moment the User removes the app from the device, or when the User clears the data within the app. Because nothing is stored on the Developer’s servers, no further action is required.

Article 8. Rights of the User

Under the GDPR, the User has the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction and objection regarding their personal data. Because the data the User enters in the app is stored solely on the User’s own device and the Developer has no access to it, the User exercises these rights in practice through the device itself: the data can be viewed, edited and erased within the app, and the app can be removed.

Insofar as an IP address is processed during the data updates (Article 4), this is done by GitHub as an independent data controller and not by the Developer. Should the User nevertheless have questions, or believe that the Developer processes personal data, contact can be made through the address in Article 1. The User also has the right to lodge a complaint with the supervisory authority. In the Netherlands this is the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).

Article 9. Children

The app is intended for a general audience and is suitable for young users, because it collects no personal data and has no accounts or communication between users. The Developer does not knowingly collect personal data from children, and by the design of the app this does not occur.

Article 10. Transfers outside the European Economic Area

The Developer itself transfers no personal data outside the European Economic Area. During the data updates (Article 4) the data file is delivered by GitHub, a provider based in the United States, where the device’s IP address may be processed in the United States. GitHub bases that transfer on the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, for which the European Commission adopted an adequacy decision on 10 July 2023, and additionally on the Standard Contractual Clauses of the European Commission. More on this can be found in GitHub’s privacy statement.

Article 11. Security

Because the predictions remain on the User’s own device, they are protected by the security of the device itself, such as the passcode and the encryption of the operating system. The connection for data updates runs over an encrypted connection (https). The Developer stores no data of its own that could be lost.

Article 12. Amendments

The Developer reserves the right to amend this notice, for example if the operation of the app changes or if laws and regulations give cause to do so. A new version takes effect once the User installs an updated version of the app or the published notice is amended. The current version is always available at everlingeringstories.com/legal/matchmatrix26/privacy. The date at the top indicates when the notice was last amended.

Article 13. Governing law

This notice is governed by Dutch law. Any disputes shall be submitted to the competent court in the district of ‘s-Hertogenbosch, the Netherlands.
